ST KILDA will unveil its ninth debutant of the season after Cameron Shenton was included in the team to take on Gold Coast on Sunday.

Shenton had been named in the squad of 25 last week against the Sydney Swans but was left out of the final team.

He will become the 1563rd player to represent the St Kilda football club.

Shenton was the fourth rookie to be elevated this season following on from Jackson Ferguson, Tom Curren and Darren Minchington.

That trio all went on to make their debuts this season, along with Nathan Wright, Josh Saunders, Jimmy Webster, Tom Lee and Brodie Murdoch.

The 22-year-old can play at either end of the ground and at 188cm can play in a variety of roles.

He has been pushing his case for senior selection strongly over the past month, being named in the best in his last four VFL games.

Shenton was drafted by the Saints with pick 30 at the 2012 Rookie Draft after impressing for SANFL club Norwood.

He comes into the squad of 22 along with Brodie Murdoch and Lenny Hayes who have both been included in the team to take on the Suns.

Josh Saunders has been rested and Darren Minchington omitted from the team.

Saints coach Scott Watters said Shenton's debut was a tribute to his persistence at working his way up to the senior team.

"It's terrific that Cam has earnt his opportunity to play. He was one of the first on the training track pre-season and he has continued to work on his game. He has forced his way into the side with good performances in the last six or seven weeks in the VFL," Watters said.

"We've now had four of our rookies debut this year which emphasises my philosophy that there aren't listed players and rookie players, everyone here is a St Kilda player and if they work hard, live by our values then they will get their chance."
