DAVID Armitage had his best season for the club this year, averaging 21.8 disposals per game and regularly dominating the Saints tackle count.

His work in the clinches often goes unnoticed to the general observer, but Armitage’s strong frame and willingness to win the inside ball make him an integral part of St Kilda’s engine room.

Armitage’s finest match for the season was his 31-touch, four-goal effort against GWS in round three, while his 12 tackles versus West Coast two months later personified his ferocious endeavour.

The 25-year-old is 92 games into what shapes as a long and successful AFL career.

Midfield coach Dean Laidley:

“Armo elevated his game again this year. He finished fifth in the best and fairest which was a good result for him. He’s a big strong body and does his best work around the contest. We expect him to continue to improve and elevate his game once again next year and he showed strong leadership this year.”
