ST KILDA is lending its support to a pledge to wipe out homophobic language and promote inclusion ahead of IDAHO, International Day Against Homophobia.

Saints veterans Lenny Hayes and Leigh Montagna were part of a group led by the AFLPA that promoted the initiative last year.

Hayes and Montagna have once again lent their voices to the campaign, while Sam Gilbert and Jarryn Geary have also been involved in the fight against homophobia, taking part in the Pride March in February.

Hayes said it was important that the football public took note of what was an important cause.

“I’d urge people to support IDAHO to raise awareness of the damaging impact that homophobic language can have within sport and the community,” Hayes said.

IDAHO commemorates the day homosexuality was removed from the International Classification of Diseases of the World Health Organisation in 1990.

It is the third season in which AFL players have supported this concept in conjunction with the AFLPA.
