Sandringham has crushed Casey by 84 points in a practice match held at Trevor Barker Beach Oval.

The Zebras kept the Scorpions goalless until Jack Fitzpatrick slotted a goal for the away side in the final minute of the third quarter.

On a perfect autumn day for football, David Armitage returned to the field for the first time since he cut his knee in round four against Adelaide.

He appeared in all four quarters and made an impact in each, dominating the clearances from stoppages all over the ground.

He played a part in many of Sandringham’s goals, repeatedly being responsible for getting the ball inside the forward 50, and even snapped a goal himself in the third term.

The Zebras dominated the whole game, particularly in the second quarter in which they added seven goals to their total.

The ball spent the majority of time in Sandringham’s forward half, as Casey struggled to clear the ball from defence past the centre square.

Tom Lee scored two goals in the opening five minutes of the term, both from a slight angle inside 50.

These were two of three goals by Lee, who topped the scoring along with Beau Maister, who also scored three goals, all from set shots.

Sandringham’s midfield was excellent with the last goal of the first half being representative of its superiority all match, as the Zebras cleanly moved the ball from defence into their attacking 50.

Lewis Pierce helped his midfield hugely by successfully tapping the ball to advantage from stoppages.

Josh Saunders and Dalton Graham were also good with their run through the middle ranking them amongst the best players of the game.

The Zebras’ defensive 50 was quiet until the third quarter when the ball spent a fair bit of time there, as Casey held the majority of possession for the first time in the game.

Despite this, Sandringham was still able to restrict the Scorpions to only one goal for the quarter, as its solid defensive pressure forced Casey to overuse the ball, resulting in opportunities for turnovers.

The practise match showed positive signs for Sandringham which takes on the Northern Blues at Visy Park next Saturday.
