ST KILDA ruckman Tom Hickey has travelled to London to have his knee assessed by a leading medical specialist.

Hickey will visit Swedish surgeon Prof. Hakan Alfredson, one of the world’s leading patella tendon specialists to assess recurring irritation to his right knee.

Hickey has been suffering from knee tendonitis throughout 2014 and was assessed by a local specialist before the decision was made to send him to the UK to consult with Prof. Alfredson who has previously treated other AFL players such as Jonathon Patton from GWS and Steven Motlop from Geelong.

A decision is yet to be made as to whether Hickey will require surgery.

Hickey played six games this season for a total of 18 since crossing from Gold Coast at the end of 2012.

"We did seek some opinions here (in Melbourne), which were really helpful, but we've chosen to go over there to see one of the people we deem as one of the world's leading experts," Club Physio Andrew Wallis told SAINTS.com.au.

In other injury news, Jack Billings will miss the remainder of the year with a right hamstring strain.

The 18-year-old limped from the field in the dying minutes of St Kilda’s loss to the Western Bulldogs on Sunday.

"He would have missed 3-4 weeks, so obviously that rules him out for the rest of the year," Wallis said.

Billings played 15 matches in his debut season, averaging 14.6 disposals per outing and earning a NAB Rising Star nomination in round 14.

Fellow left-footer Josh Bruce also won’t play again in 2014 after suffering a shin injury against the Dogs.

The utility was subbed during the third quarter on the weekend and is expected to be fully recovered in time for pre-season training.

Bruce has played 10 senior games this year after arriving from GWS in the summer, booting four goals in the past fortnight as a forward following a stint in defence.

On a positive note, Jarryn Geary is available for selection this week. The 26-year-old hasn’t played since injuring his elbow in his 100th game in May.
