NEW RECRUIT Tim Membrey will kick off pre-season training on Wednesday morning alongside St Kilda’s one to four year players.

Days after he joined the Saints, the 20-year-old, originally from Traralgon, said he was keen to work hard and make a good impression on his new teammates.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for me.  It’s a young side and there’s plenty of potential in the team.  There is great coaching staff and I feel like the sky is the limit from here,” Membrey told SAINTS.com.au.

“I really just want to get down and start training.  I want to earn the respect of those senior guys that have been here and really be open to everyone; get used to the system, work hard and set myself up for a good year.”

Touted as a better set-shot than Brendan Fevola, Membrey will add immediate impact to St Kilda’s forward line.

Standing at 188cm, the medium-sized forward admits his accurate kick on goal is his best asset, but is equally excited at the prospect of developing his game further afield.

“We’ve spoken a little bit about my position,” the ex-Swan said.

“Obviously I’m a forward and I’d like to keep playing up there and one of my strengths is my goal kicking, but I will just keep working on my endurance and see what happens.

“Being that forward that leads up to the ball appeals to me. We’ve had a few discussions about that but I’m sure there will plenty more to come.”

Membrey spent the post-season break with former teammates in Thailand before heading home to Gippsland to spend time with friends and family.

He will move in with Blake Acres before finding a more permanent home.

“I’ve been in Traralgon and catching up with family and friends,” he said.

“Mum is pretty excited that I’m going to be a bit closer to home so I’ll be able to see them more often.

“I’m just really looking forward to getting stuck into it and meeting everyone. It’s very new for me and I’m looking forward to the challenge…I’ll crack in this pre-season.”
