Lonie reads the the game exceptionally well around goals and has a penetrating left foot. The ex-Dandenong Stingray enjoyed a superb 2014 National Carnival and was awarded Vic Country's Most Valuable Player.

He recorded 8.37 sec in the agility run at the NAB AFL Draft Combine and is the cousin of former AFL players Nathan (Hawthorn and (Port Adelaide) and Ryan (Collingwood).
