St Kilda forward Daniel Markworth is set to visit a surgeon after dislocating his shoulder at training on Thursday.

Markworth was admitted to hospital to relocate the shoulder and will visit the surgeon on Tuesday to assess the next course of action.

The 22-year-old has had an unfortunate run of injuries over the past three years.

Drafted with pick 35 at the 2011 National Draft, Markworth was named as an emergency on three occasions in his first year on the St Kilda list before rupturing his ACL on a training camp in Boulder, Colorado at the end of 2012.

That injury forced Markworth to miss the entire 2013 campaign.

He returned to play for St Kilda’s VFL affiliate Sandringham in 2014, only for his season to come to a premature end due to a severe hamstring injury.

St Kilda General Manager Football Performance Jamie Cox said the club was hopeful of a positive outcome at Markworth’s meeting with the surgeon.

“Daniel is a talented footballer with enormous character who has had a wretched run with injuries and deserves a bit of luck,” Cox said.

“Frustratingly each of his injuries have been isolated incidents and not related to each other.”
