Sandringham senior coach and St Kilda development coach Paul Hudson runs a ruler over the individual performance of the Saints-listed players following Sunday's thrilling win over Essendon.

MATCH REPORT: Zebras triumph in stunning fashion

Tom Lee

I thought he was best on ground. He has a good kick on him and he used that really well out of defence. He’s reading the play well and getting a bit of confidence down there with 17 touches. Each week Tom’s losing less and less aerial contests as well which is really pleasing.

Tom Simpkin

Tom didn’t have a lot of the ball but I reckon he turned the game for us in the second quarter. We threw him into the middle for the last five minutes and he got the ball going our way that resulted in scores. He has a great physical presence.

Hugh Goddard

Hugh went into the game with a bit of gastro and wasn’t 100 per cent, but he managed to battle through and did quite well. We had to rotate him more than we otherwise would have given how he was feeling.

Jimmy Webster

Jimmy had 15 touches playing off half-back and on the wing. He’s got such a penetrating kick and he gave us some real drive when he found space, he just needs to do it a bit more often. That will come with playing more games as this was his first match back since the intra club.

Darren Minchington

Darren has 19 touches but the most pleasing part was that he had eight tackles. He was in and under and kicked a goal for us too.

Tom Curren

Tommy was very similar to Darren but probably had a few more marks around the ground. He always works extremely hard and Sunday was no different.

Josh Saunders

Josh played the majority of the game in the midfield and a bit up forward. His inside work was excellent again and more often the not he wins the ball in 50/50 contests. He was our highest possession winner with 25 touches and his clearance work late in the game was excellent. But the most pleasing part about Josh's game was that he had more kicks than handballs and that is something we've been working on for a few weeks now.

Blake Acres

Blake played wing and midfield. He didn’t have a massive game in terms of possessions (14), but he played his role really well and his structures were excellent. He did everything we asked of him from a structural point of view.

Tom Hickey

We had three ruckmen and Tom was the best of them on the day. We had a system where each of them would ruck, go forward and then come off. Tom won his taps and had 17 touches. He impacted defensively with six tackles and played a very good game for us.

Daniel McKenzie

Daniel didn’t have as many touches or tackles as previous weeks, but I love his intensity. He cracks in, really has a go and uses his legs. By no means was it a big game, but he didn’t get beaten either.

Lewis Pierce

Lewis got to the right spots and made some contests. It mightn’t show that he’s taken many marks, but he consistently bought the ball to ground and allowed our midfielders to clean up.

Jason Holmes

Jason won his taps as per usual. At ground level he gets his hands on it and sets us up and we’re continuing to work with him on the marking side of his game and how to impact the contest that way.

Spencer White

At the end of the third quarter Spencer kicked a really good goal. He was up on the defensive 50, we had a free kick, and he just worked with the ball and saw space forward. He got in behind, used his body and took a nice mark and kicked a good goal. It probably emulates the way we want him to play, rather than wait for the ball to come to him.

Brenton Payne

Brenton did really well. He had 12 possessions off half-back and I really like his spoiling technique – he takes body and ball. He’s aggressive and gave us good offensive run on Sunday.

Eli Templeton

Eli copped some close attention on the weekend. He played on the wing and in the midfield and didn’t impact the game as much as he did last week. It wasn’t through lack of effort because he had six tackles.
