Sandringham senior coach and St Kilda development coach Paul Hudson runs a ruler over the individual performance of the Saints-listed players following Sunday's hard-fought loss to Northern Blues.

MATCH REPORT: Sandringham rallies late but falls to Blues

Hugh Goddard

Hugh started slowly and Matthew Watson got off him a couple of times. But as the game wore on he got better and better, tightening up and holding Levi Casboult really well. He didn’t get out-marked and had a solid game.

Paddy McCartin

Paddy competed really well. He didn’t take that many marks, but he could have been used a lot more than what he was. His leading patterns were excellent and his defensive pressure was also good.

Tom Simpkin

Tommy played a solid defensive role. He found himself playing on talls and small forwards and he showed his versatility in matching it with opponents of all sizes.

Ahmed Saad

Ahmed was quiet for three quarters and then really had an impact when the game was on the line in the final term. I suppose we moved the ball quicker when we were chasing the game late in the match and as a result he had more space to show his creativity in the forward 50. It’s important he continues to work on his defensive skills.

Eli Templeton

Eli played wing and forward. Structurally he was very good and also laid a few tackles. He played his part for the team and is doing well.

Darren Minchington

Darren looked really dangerous when he got on the move. He had a couple of shots in the last quarter and missed, but had 18 disposals and also applied some defensive pressure. He was one of our better players along with Eli.

Tom Curren

Tommy had 26 touches and play on-ball. He had a consistent game and worked hard to reach stoppages and apply defensive pressure.

Brodie Murdoch

It was Brodie’s second game back from injury and he was just a little rusty. He laid some tackles and I have no doubt he will get better next week. We were down to two fit players on the bench so he was thrown around position-wise which wasn’t ideal. He will settle as a half-forward and on-baller next week.

Tom Lee

Tom used the ball really well out of defence. His kicks create opportunities for others and put them in a good position to attack. His confidence is up with his skills and I’m pleased that he isn’t always taking the easy option – he’s really taking the game on.

Josh Saunders

Josh played wing and a little bit up forward. He had 24 touches and kicked a goal, but he had more handballs than kicks. We want that stat to be the other way around.

Nathan Wright

Nathan had 17 disposals and six tackles as a back pocket. He played the role well and knew when to lock down and when to run off his opponent. We’d like him to a little bit more attacking, but he took some gutsy marks running back with the flight of the ball.

Jason Holmes

This was the best game I’ve seen Jason play as far as tap-work goes. He also took a hanger, kicked a goal, impacted at ground level and had six tackles. It was an excellent return for Holmesy and he had the better of Levi Casboult too.

Spencer White

Spencer White took his opportunities this week. He only had eight touches but kicked three goals and had another couple of chances as well late in the game.

Joe Baker-Thomas

JBT had a good first half in defence for the development team and wasn’t quite as consistent in the second half.
