St Kilda has elevated one rookie and signed another to a two-year deal.

Exciting youngster Jack Sinclair will be elevated to the Saints senior list for the 2016 and 2017 seasons after signing a two-year contract with the club, while Adam Schneider has been elevated as the club’s nominated rookie, effective immediately.

Every club has the option of elevating a rookie after their bye round (subject to the club’s total player payment position), and the Saints have elected to promote the 222-game veteran following an impressive first half of the season. He will remain eligible for senior selection for the remainder of the season.

Schneider averages 21.6 disposals per game, while Sinclair is St Kilda’s third leading goal kicker with 11 majors, making an immediate impact since making his debut against GWS in round one, and at the mid-way point of the season he is St Kilda’s third leading goal kicker this season with 11 majors.

Chief Operating Officer Ameet Bains said Sinclair’s two-year deal was reward for an excellent 10-game stint after he forced his way onto the senior list before round one.

“Jack has shown an immediate ability to play consistently at AFL level, so we are delighted that he can be rewarded with a two-year contract extension,” Bains told SAINTS.com.au.

“The fact he will be properly elevated to the primary list at the end of the season is well-deserved for Jack and highly pleasing for the club.”

Sinclair was the number one pick at this year’s Rookie Draft, joining former Oakleigh Chargers teammates Jack Billings and Daniel McKenzie.

Jack Sinclair has kicked 11 goals this season.

His family connection to the club spans 60 years, with his grandfather Bill Gleeson playing 14 games with St Kilda from 1955-56.

Schneider’s elevation recognises his significant contribution not just in football terms, but also as a leader.

The clever left-footer, who arrived at the Saints from Sydney at the end of 2007, has played an important mentoring role for fellow small forward Jack Lonie among others, according to senior coach Alan Richardson.

“Adam has been tremendously important for us this season,” Richardson told SAINTS.com.au

“His form has been consistent, and in many ways he acts as an on-field assistant coach for our young guys, directing traffic and using his years of experience out there. He has been invaluable for the development of our exciting young group.”

Sinclair said he was delighted to secure a spot on St Kilda’s primary list.

“I’m thrilled to be given a two-year extension. There is a great vibe around the club – it is a very young group and it is an exciting time to be around,” Sinclair said.

“The Saints are in my blood and have been part of my family for generations. There really is nowhere else I would want to be.”

Neither Sinclair nor Schneider played against Melbourne in round 11, with both returning to the rookie list in place of Arryn Siposs and Daniel Markworth who both returned from the long-term injury list.

Siposs and Markworth both underwent shoulder surgery and played in Sandringham’s win a fortnight ago.

Sinclair, along with fellow rookies Jason Holmes, Brenton Payne and Ahmed Saad can still be elevated to the senior list during the 2015 season if another player is placed on the long-term injury list.
