ST KILDA may be out of finals contention, but there is still plenty more to achieve in the remaining five games for 2015, says Sean Dempster.

The Saints are currently 13th on the ladder with six wins, equal on points with Melbourne but ahead on percentage.

Dempster, although frustrated with last week’s performance, is intent on finishing the season on a high with games against top eight teams Fremantle, North Melbourne, Geelong, Sydney and West Coast to come.

“We are not a chance to make finals and it’s about getting everything possible out of the last five games,” he said.

“It’s about getting some confidence and continuity for next season and getting some games into young players.

“That’s what we are looking forward to. Shaking it up and making them earn it. We are not walkovers and will not stand aside and let you walk into the eight. We are going to make it hard for you and give everything we’ve got.”

The experienced defender will play his 200th AFL game this weekend and is planning to celebrate the milestone in style, with an upset win over league leaders Fremantle at Etihad Stadium.

“It’s a great test for our young group and we are looking forward to it,” Dempster said on Tuesday morning.

“Fremantle plays a very aggressive, in your face game plan. They will be gunning for that top sport and will hit us with everything they’ve got.”

St Kilda has defeated Fremantle the last two times they have met, and although Dempster conceded the Saints would take some confidence out of last year’s upset win, he suggested it will count for nothing once the ball is bounced at 4.40pm this Sunday.

“You take confidence out of anytime you beat another team but that only gets you so far,” he said.

“They are a great team and have been playing great footy all year. We know it will be a hard challenge for us.”

Dempster played 54 games for Sydney, including the 2005 premiership. He has played 145 matches for St Kilda since arriving at the club at the end of 2006.
