This is how ruck coach Adam Skrobalak assessed the season of each his ruckmen.

ENGINE ROOM: The importance of hit outs

Billy Longer

Billy had his best season yet and was able to hold down the number one ruck spot. He worked exceptionally hard on his professionalism, fitness and ruck craft which helped him show good improvement throughout the season. It’s important he continues to build on this over the pre-season and into 2016.

ARMO'S CHALLENGE: Billy Longer

Tom Hickey

Tom played a mixture of forward and ruck this year and developed his versatility and experience in both roles. When he is marking well he is a very hard match up in the forward line and his high endurance base can make him a tough opponent when in the ruck. We are looking forward to a big pre-season in the gym with Tom to help him compete against the bigger and stronger ruckman of the AFL.

Lewis Pierce

Lewis had another season of development and improvement playing for Sandringham in the VFL. He’s a long-term prospect for us we anticipate that he will take some big steps forward in 2016. As he continues to grow physically and improve his endurance base we will continue to see vast improvement. We saw signs this year that his ruck craft has taken some big steps forward.

Jason Holmes

It was terrific to see Jason debut and play the last three games of the season in the senior team. He worked tremendously hard on all aspects of his game and was rewarded towards the back end of the year. The challenge for Jason is to take his around the ground game to another level in 2016 and impact more with his aggressive follow up and as a link player. His ruck work in isolation is exciting and continues to improve with added variety to his ruck craft.
