MADDIE Riewoldt’s Vision (MRV) has announced that it has raised $750,000 since being established as a charity organisation four months ago and will now be able to fund its first research project.

MRV, which was created in honour of St Kilda skipper Nick Riewoldt’s late sister, aims to support the understanding of Bone Marrow Failure Syndrome and to help those suffering from the disease.

Ultimately, MRV’s goal is to find a cure for the disease that took the life of 26-year-old Maddie in February this year.

In round 16 the inaugural Maddie’s Match was held at Etihad Stadium between cousin Jack Riewoldt’s Richmond and Nick’s St Kilda and 45,772 fans attended - mostly draped in purple – to show their support to the #FightLikeMaddie cause. That Sunday afternoon game helped raise $314,000 allowing MRV to gain immediate momentum.

The crowd was also the highest for the season at Etihad Stadium, further demonstrating the public’s unwavering support for a special cause and the Riewoldt family.

Newly appointed MRV CEO Nicky Long said this announcement is a considerable step towards achieving Maddie’s Vision, but added there is still plenty of work to be done.

“One behalf of the MRV board, we wish to thank everyone for their generous contributions to date,” Long said.

“Thankyou Australia – together, we will continue to #FightLikeMaddie and raise funds to support the best researchers in the country.
