I’ve absolutely loved this season. Coming in I had the mindset to get the most out of myself every day and I think I did that as best as I could.

You learn different things about yourself every day at a footy club. The way the players and coaches deliver feedback is spot on and it’s great for not just my footy development, but also my personal development.

I put on about 8kgs during the pre-season. That allowed me to at least physically compete even though I have other parts of my game that need work.

I had to really earn my spot in the team which was frustrating at the time, but looking back on it I think it was the best thing for me. I learned my craft for Sandringham and was able to make the most of my opportunity when I got a chance at the senior level.

Having to earn my spot holds me in good stead for the future. As much as I would have liked to have played more games this year, I need to remember I’m still young and still have plenty to learn.

Sam Fisher has been unbelievable for me. He’s probably sick of me asking questions and being a pest. He’s been awesome and is someone there that I can always talk to. It is good have a really positive relationship with him. To play the last two months with him was really beneficial.

I wanted to make a really good first impression this year but next season I think I will just learn to relax a bit more and take a step back sometimes. I want to be seen as someone who works hard and gives his all but there are things you learn and the most important thing is that I find that balance in life away from footy.

RELATED: Goddard is more than a name

My goal this year was to play just one game. To play eight was well beyond my wildest dreams.

I am planning to come back even better in 2016 and I want to really make an impression on the team. I want to build my speed and agility up. My body is still adjusting to its weight so I’ll work hard over the summer.

I will have a specific program over the pre-season to improve the intensity of my efforts and repeat efforts. That’s where the game is going and I want to be able to play on players that are known for their running and not just be locked down deep in defence. I’m looking forward to relaxing and playing some golf this summer.
