Shane Savage has become the latest St Kilda player to sign on, committing to the club until the end of 2017.

Savage’s new deal is a one-year extension on top of his existing contract.

The 24-year-old has played 34 games for the Saints since arriving from Hawthorn at the end of 2013 in a trade that also brought in the draft pick that was used on Luke Dunstan.

Savage’s contract comes shortly after the club also re-signed Jarryn Geary and Maverick Weller and just days after the club confirmed it would be relocating its training and administration facilities to its traditional heartland of Moorabbin.

Savage said there was no hesitation in committing to the Saints for a contract extension.

“St Kilda has been fantastic to me ever since I joined the club and there was no doubt that I wanted to further my commitment,” Savage said.

“There are some exciting times at the club on and off the field and I am thrilled to continue to be a part of it.”

St Kilda Chief Operating Officer Ameet Bains said Savage’s signature was yet another good news item to emerge from the Saints.

“Shane has become an important part of our team since arriving at the end of 2013. We identified him as someone who met our needs given his leg speed and ball use, and he has played some important roles for us at either end of the ground,” Bains said.

“We are delighted to have him extend his contract for a further year.”
