St Kilda returned to training on Wednesday morning following the Christmas interval and were immediately pulled out of holiday mode with a three-kilometre time trial around Caulfield Park.

In cool, overcast conditions that were ideal for running, experienced midfielder Jarryn Geary reclaimed the endurance title at Linen House Centre, leading the field home in a tight finish ahead of Sean Dempster and Jack Newnes.

After the gruelling welcome-back-to-work assessment, the Saints completed a skills session with the majority of the list involved.

Nick Riewoldt moved well in his first session back since returning from his extended break in the United States, with the captain completing a running session as well as getting his hands on the ball once again.

Off-season recruit Nathan Freeman trained away from the main group as he continues his rehabilitation program following a minor setback with his troublesome hamstring prior to the break.

3km Time Trial Results:

  1. Jarryn Geary
  2. Sean Dempster
  3. Jack Newnes
