Under the guidance of Senior Coach Alan Richardson, St Kilda has incrementally improved in each of his two years at the helm, marching towards a future that is built upon sturdy foundations which will put the club on a path to sustained success.
With the Saints possessing a generous helping of seasoned stars and wise old heads, coupled with a wave of high-end youth beginning to leave their mark, the club is well placed to improve on the six and a half wins from 2015.
Ahead of his first game in charge against Brisbane Lions on Sunday, Senior Assistant Coach Adam Kingsley said the club isn’t putting a figure, or a limit, on what it can achieve this season. Although the aim is to improve on last year’s performance which saw the Saints become a much more competitive outfit.
“You want to improve on that (2015) ideally so that’s what we’re aiming and what that looks like I think it’s hard to predict. We’d be happy with anything over that, but clearly we are aiming to make the finals and we want to do that sooner rather than later,” Kingsley told Adelaide radio station Fiveaa.
“We’re driving our players to achieve that and then we reassess as we go. But at the very least, we want to improve.
Business as usual for grateful Kingsley
“We don’t want to limit ourselves with our own expectations at the same time. We want to play an exciting brand of footy and we think we’re working towards that.
“But we know we’ve got a little way to improve on that; we can improve our skill level; we can improve how bold we are with the ball; our defence can certainly improve; so we’ve got every area of the game.
“Like everyone in the AFL, we’re in a hurry. We’re never satisfied with finishing second, third, tenth, 12th, or whatever it is.”
On the back of Director of Coaching & Development Danny Sexton steering the ship in the first NAB Challenge game, the Saints will continue to develop their personnel in Queensland, with Kingsley being provided the opportunity to coach the side.
