St Kilda expects Captain Nick Riewoldt to be fit to face Port Adelaide in Round 1 after he experienced some tightness late in Sunday’s final NAB Challenge hit out.

GM of Football Performance Jamie Cox said the six-time Trevor Barker Award winner departed the game at the right time after feeling tight in his lower leg, but has pulled up well ahead of the Saints season opener in 12 day’s time.

“The captain is fine. He obviously left the ground as what people reported as an injury, but he really got his leg just in time,” Cox told saints.com.au on Tuesday afternoon.

“He should be fine for Round 1. He’s pulled up really well and that’s really good news on that front.”

Defender Jimmy Webster hurt his hand late against Melbourne, but subsequent scans have cleared the Tasmanian of any bone damage, ensuring he should also be available to travel to South Australia.

“Jimmy Webster in the game against the Demons had an incident late where he fell on his wrist and we were worried about some bone damage there, but scans have cleared him as well. Hopefully Jimmy doesn’t miss any footy, he’s pulled up well also,” Cox said.

Rookie midfielder Nick O’Kearney was the only injury concern to emerge from Saturday’s VFL practice match against Frankston, although scans have also cleared him of any damage.

“Nick O’Kearney damaged his ankle in a tackle. There was some concerns around the actual joint but he’s also been cleared of any damage. He won’t miss any football as well,” Cox said.
