Milestone man Shane Savage says the opportunity to run out on to the ground and through the banner with his little boy Jett is something he’ll cherish forever.

The former Hawk reached the 100-game barrier against Fremantle at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night and made a strong contribution in the 34-point, collecting 22 possessions and using the ball at a pristine efficiency rate of 95.5 per cent.

“It was awesome from start to finish, running out with my little boy. It was really good memories for myself,” Savage told saints.com.au after St Kilda’s win on Saturday night.

“I sort of had a tear in my eye. It’s something I’ll never forget. And seeing my name on that banner and running out with my son is something I’ll never forget.”

Savage, 24, has started the season in career-best form, forming a formidable partnership with veteran Leigh Montagna across half-back to provide the Saints with plenty of drive out of the back half.

After being comprehensively beaten in the middle two quarters by the Dockers, St Kilda stormed home in the last quarter to celebrate Savage’s 100th with four premiership points, much to the rebounding defenders delight.

“I thought Freo were really strong for three quarters, but all credit goes to the boys in the last quarter, we were able to run over them in the last quarter with our drive and our boldness,” Savage said.

“I’m just glad the boys didn’t drop their bundle and let Freo get even more of a run on. Our run and drive, especially from half-back, was really important in the last quarter.”
