Sandringham Coach and St Kilda Development Coach Paul Hudson provides an individual breakdown of all Saints listed players from the weekend.

Eli Templeton – 36 possessions (13 contested), 7 inside 50s, 6 clearances and 6 tackles

“Eli was good again. He spread well and his ball use was excellent. It was his best performance of the year so he’s put his best foot forward to get another opportunity at AFL level.”

Brodie Murdoch – 29 possessions, 24 kicks, 9 marks, 8 inside 50s and 3 rebound 50s

“A really good performance in all aspects of his game. He used the ball very well and was good in the contest. He came forward well to impact and was good at covering the outlets. He put his hand up for another senior chance.”

Josh Saunders – 27 possessions (11 contested), 6 inside 50s and 5 clearances

“A really solid game on the wing from Josh, his ball use was pretty good and he worked hard for the full four quarters. He needs to work on kicking instead of forward handballing at times.”

Nick O’Kearney – 27 possessions at 86 per cent, 9 marks and 3 goals

“Nick worked really hard again. He worked high up the ground to provide an outlet. He used the ball well and got plenty of it with 27 possessions."

Jack Sinclair – 19 possessions (12 contested), 9 clearances and 5 tackles

“The Northern Blues really went after Jack but he fought through the attention well. His stats don’t look amazing, but he made a really solid contribution and his hands in tight were really good.”

Cam Shenton – 17 possessions, 7 tackles and 3 goals

“Cameron had a solid balanced game. He worked really hard offensively to provide options high up the ground, he reset with purpose to either create scoring opportunities or to give him a chance to defend strongly. Another strong performance. He continues to push for another senior opportunity.”

Brenton Payne – 15 possessions, 6 marks, 3 tackles and 1 goal

“I was really pleased with Payney’s game. He held structure and impacted when the time was right. He still needs to strike through the ball and use his body more effectively in the contest, but he made a good contribution and kicked a nice goal.”

Daniel McKenzie – 14 possessions (9 contested), 4 marks and 2 inside 50s

“Dan struggled to get into the game against the Blues, but he always gives a great contest when the ball is in his area and his compliance with our structure was a positive.”

Brandon White – 14 possessions, 5 inside 50s and 4 marks

“Brandon responded after a slow first half which was a positive. He was a bit lazy with his disposal at times, but was always looking for the handball receive which is what we want because he is so damaging by foot. Consistency is a focus for him now.”

Nick Coughlan – 12 possessions, 5 marks and 3 rebound 50s

“Nick was a consistent performer all day in the content and was good at getting over to support his teammates and outnumber the opposition. His ball use was also a positive on the day.”

Joe Baker-Thomas – 11 possessions at 100 per cent efficiency and 4 marks

“JBT played on Liam Jones and got the better of him for the best part of three quarters. He took a big step forward with his contest work and his aggression.”

Lewis Pierce – 16 hitouts, 10 possessions and 4 inside 50s

“Lewy competed really well and was starting to build a game but was taken from the ground at half-time as a senior emergency. He looked good though and got his hands on the ball.”

Jason Holmes – 20 hitouts, 8 possessions and 3 marks

“It was the best he’s looked up forward all year and when he went into the ruck in the second half he beat a seasoned player in Cameron Wood and his follow up work was great.”
