Sandringham Coach Paul Hudson has lamented his side’s third and most recent loss to Williamstown on the weekend, indicating that the performance was substandard for a team who wants to progress deep into September.

The Zebras kicked one goal in the first three quarters against the first-placed Seagulls, before finally getting going in the last quarter to win that term five goals to two.

“We can’t win a game of footy by playing one quarter. We didn’t apply ourselves in the first three quarters, the efforts were poor and you have to bring your A-game against strong opposition like Williamstown,” Hudson told saints.com.au.

“It was disappointing for Tom Simpkin in his 100th game. I’d like to think significant milestones like that mean something to everyone, so the lack of effort was ordinary.”

Despite the Zebras’ third successive loss and a trip to Ballarat coming up on Saturday, Hudson believes there’s opportunity to get some wins in the final month of the season before finals.

“I’d like to think we can build some wins on the board in the next four weeks leading into finals. Our best is certainly good enough and we showed in that last quarter against Williamstown that when we apply ourselves, we’re a dangerous football side,” he said.

“We need to address our starts in games and break things down quarter-by-quarter, because we won’t last long in finals if we don’t look at it. We’ve got the next four weeks to get it right.”
