St Kilda midfielder David Armitage has been ruled out of this weekend’s trip to Perth due to a groin injury, joining veteran forward Nick Riewoldt on the sidelines for up to two weeks.

Saints GM Football Performance Jamie Cox said Armitage would join Riewoldt, who avoided a serious knee injury in the 30-point loss to Melbourne on Saturday night, as one of two forced changes for the Round 2 encounter with West Coast.

“Unfortunately Dave Armitage pulled up sore in the groin from that game and will miss this week,” Cox told saints.com.au on Tuesday night.

“It’s not one we think is too serious and he should only miss a week or two.”

Star half-back Leigh Montagna is a chance to return to the senior setup after getting through his first game of 2017 unscathed following a calf strain, which didn’t allow him to feature in any of St Kilda’s JLT Community Series.

“On the positive side Leigh Montagna had some really good minutes in the VFL at the weekend and looks as though he’ll be fit to be considered for selection,” Cox said.

Cox said emerging key forward is also a chance to return to the senior side after he was a late withdrawal from the season opener due to hamstring tightness.

“Paddy McCartin, who was a late withdrawal from the game at the weekend, also had some good minutes in the VFL on Sunday and looks to have shaken off any troubles and should also be in the mix for selection,” he said.
