St Kilda key forward Josh Bruce has put his hand up for an AFL recall after booting four goals in Sandringham’s 14-point loss to Collingwood at Victoria Park on Sunday.

In his third outing at VFL level, Bruce took eight marks and gathered 11 disposals in three quarters before being rested in the final term.

Sandringham Coach Lindsay Gilbee said Bruce couldn’t have done much more to mount his case for another opportunity at senior level.

“Josh Bruce was without doubt our best player on the ground,” Gilbee told saints.com.au.

“It was outstanding in the contest and gave us a real focal point up forward for our midfielders to kick to.

“He gives himself a big chance to play AFL football for St Kilda with strong performances like that.”

Gilbee also praised midfielder-forward Darren Minchington after he gathered 23 disposals, seven tackles and kicked two goals, following a quiet performance against the Western Bulldogs in Round 10.

“Darren Minchington just oozes with quality and he’s a class above VFL level, which is why we see such great games from him," Gilbee said.

“His challenge is translating that VFL form into AFL consistency and we know he’s very capable of that. He’ll continue to work hard and we’ve got no doubt he’ll get that opportunity again.”
