St Kilda champion Nick Riewoldt says the Saints ‘couldn’t do anything wrong’ in a second quarter blitz that carved open up an 82-point half-time lead against Richmond on Saturday night.

With so much on the line for both sides at Etihad Stadium, particularly for St Kilda given where they sit at this stage of the year, Alan Richardson's men booted 9.5 to just one behind in the second term to completely dominate the Tigers.

The Saints’ fourth consecutive win, for the first time since 2011, consolidates their spot in the top eight, level with fourth-placed Richmond and a game clear of a chasing pack of four sides that starts with Port Adelaide in sixth.

“We played really well and it feels like that form has been building for a few weeks,” Riewoldt told saints.com.au after the 67-point win at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.

“For it to culminate in that second quarter, we couldn’t really do anything wrong.

“That’s an example of the footy we’ve been trying to play all year, and clearly you’re not going to be able to replicate that every quarter but that’s what you strive for.”

With so many consequences on and off the field in the second edition of Maddie’s Match on Saturday night, Riewoldt said the stunning performance against the Tigers was indicative of the maturity of the playing group at Linen House Centre.

“Clearly the build-up has been huge off the field and the ramifications off the field, particularly for Maddie’s Vision were really significant; saving lives; raising money for that; it doesn’t come much more significant,” Riewoldt said.

“But on the field there were big ramifications for our footy club. So for the guys to come out and respond the way we did, with a lot of distractions during the week, was a great sign of the maturity of our group.”
