St Kilda star Jack Steven has earned a spot in AFL Media’s team of the week following his case of leather poisoning against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Steven, 27, was the clear standout in the Saints’ 49-point win in Nick Riewoldt’s final home game and final outing at Etihad Stadium.

The three-time Trevor Barker Award winner amassed 40 disposals – the equal third highest haul of his career – 18 score involvements – the second most of any player in Round 22 – 15 contested possessions, 11 clearances and 417 metres gained.

With Geelong’s reigning Brownlow medallist Patrick Dangerfield, Adelaide star Rory Sloane and Greater Western Sydney young gun Josh Kelly difficult to dislodge from a starting spot, afl.com.au slotted Steven on the interchange, alongside Brisbane captain Dayne Beams and Sydney skipper Josh Kennedy.

After a quiet month, Steven recaptured the type of form on the weekend that saw him win his second consecutive best and fairest and third in four years last season.

Steven has played 19 games in 2017 and averaged 26.3 disposals, 10.3 contested possessions, 5.2 clearances and 4.7 tackles.
