St Kilda will trade out its traditional red for purple in Friday’s encounter with Richmond at Etihad Stadium, to commemorate the life of and raise much-needed funds for Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision.

Tonight will mark the third iteration of Maddie’s Match, with the Saints’ sights set on replicating last year’s performance, in which they thumped the soon-to-be premiers by 67 points.

While the Tigers have emerged victorious in their past two meetings with St Kilda, the Saints challenged the reigning premiers in Round 10, kickstarting their mid-season turn of form.

Jack Riewoldt will be driven to perform on such a momentous occasion for his club and family, once again serving as the focal point for Richmond’s attack.

Although Riewoldt was rubbed out with concussion against St Kilda earlier this year, the eight-time Michael Roach medallist will be a primary focus for the Saints, with his ability to work up the ground and kick crucial goals similar to that of his older cousin.

Despite Riewoldt leading with 37 majors, Josh Caddy has performed soundly with 32 of his own; six of which came against St Kilda in Riewoldt’s absence.

Jake Carlisle will be the likely candidate to negate either powerhouse, but will be without the support of Jimmy Webster, who will miss the hit-out due to groin soreness.

The smalls surrounding the Tigers’ tall timber will be equally ominous, with Daniel Rioli and Shane Edwards both making vital contributions thanks to their manic pressure inside forward 50.

Well-known for their strong finishes, the Tigers have capitalised on the scoreboard, booting a league-high 70 final quarter goals.

Dustin Martin and Trent Cotchin have been Richmond’s primary movers, with their respective grunt and composure allowing them to penetrate inside 50m, with a combined 153 entries this season.

With Kane Lambert adding another level to the midfield, the Saints will likely turn to the seasoned tagger in Jack Steele to nullify one of the superstars.

The inclusion of Seb Ross will be invaluable for the Saints, with the 25-year-old averaging 32 touches in his past four encounters with the reigning premiers.

While Richmond boast arguably the sturdiest backline in the league, with Alex Rance, David Astbury and Dylan Grimes, the dynamism of Jade Gresham will certainly play on their minds.

Jagging 11 majors in his last two encounters with the Tigers, Gresham will be tasked once again with finding the cracks and hitting the scoreboard alongside the returning Josh Battle.

With such a significant game on the line, the Saints will be intent on toppling the Tigers and giving it their all in honour of the late Maddie Riewoldt.
