FANS will be able to pack their footy and bring it to Etihad Stadium in a throwback to a bygone era at our season opener this Sunday.

St Kilda supporters will have the chance to have a kick on the ground after this Sunday’s game against Greater Western Sydney in one of a range of initiatives introduced to embody the spirit of St Kilda.

Inflatable thundersticks that double as drumsticks and lip syncing microphones, new versions of the club song recorded by St Kilda artists and on-ground live interviews with players and coaches are some of the exciting additions to St Kilda home games in 2015.

CEO Matt Finnis said the Saints have focused on creating a welcoming, family friendly atmosphere at the ground and believes the changes would contribute to this goal.

“Attending a game of footy be a different experience this year with several initiatives including on-ground interviews for the crowd from the senior coach pre-game and interviews with players at half time and post-match,” he said.

“Win, lose or draw, we want to make sure that people attending the game have a great experience before, during and after the game.”

Home games throughout the season will feature:

• The return of the traditional on ground kick-to-kick post game

• Inflatable thundersticks that have drumsticks on one side (for fans to bang together to make some noise as the team runs onto the ground) and a microphone on the other side for a new segment called Rock Like a Rock Star

• Rock Like a Rock Star which will engage fans to lip sync along with a song played over stadium speakers similar to ‘fan cam’ where fans will be seen performing on the big screen and LED

• Pic of the Day presented by Dare Iced Coffee where fans can post photos on social media using #HowIWantToBe to feature on the big screen and go into the draw to win awesome Dare Iced Coffee prizes

• A 30 minute team warm-up on the ground (with less than an hour to the bounce)

• Players entering the ground approximately three mins before the game starts (as trialled in the NAB Challenge) to build anticipation and excitement and launch into the game

• Extensive audio and visual displays on the new-look stadium big screen

• Fresh-faced presenters who will roam the boundary with a host of giveaways and prizes (including selfie sticks) for the crowd pre-match and during the game

• Saints Unplugged which is a big screen feature that will show different St Kilda artists each week signing their own rendition of the club song (similar to ‘Like a version’ on Triple J)

• The Round 1 introduction by a famous club icon of a new Saints mascot

• Club mascot Trevor the Saint will take part in a dance off against the new character each week

• Inflatable How I Want to Be beach ball floating around the crowd at half time

• Free popcorn for kids at half time

• The t-shirt cannon will be out in force during the game, launching t-shirts into the crowd

• A friendly welcome and good bye, as well as assisted support, from our volunteer crew proudly presented by  Seek volunteers (who will wear club branded clothing)

“Game day is all about the fans this year and bringing the iconic St Kilda spirit to life,” Finnis said.

“We want all of our fans to be excited and entertained from the moment our gates open until they finish playing kick-to-kick with the kids on the oval – that’s what St Kilda footy is all about in 2015.”
