St Kilda utility Shane Savage has joined a growing congregation of Saints to commit their futures to the club, by extending his current contract until the end of 2017.

Since crossing from Hawthorn during the 2013 trade period, Savage has played 34 games in red, white and black, including 20 appearances during the 2015 campaign in his best season yet at AFL level.

On the back of long-term commitments from star midfielders, David Armitage and Jack Steven, earlier in the year, Savage’s one-year extension, sees him join Jarryn Geary and Maverick Weller as players to pledge their future to the club in the last week.

Speaking at a press conference to celebrate the 500th edition of The Big Issue, the 24-year-old revealed the decision to re-sign with the Saints was an easy one, particularly given the clubs direction from an off-field perspective.

“It sure was (an easy decision to make). I’m really excited with my time at St Kilda so far,” Savage told reporters on Tuesday afternoon.

“We have record membership sales at the moment and we have major sponsors coming on board in Pepper Money as well, so I’m really excited.

“It’s really good to see these core players jumping on board. Jack Steven and ‘Armo’ early on in the year as well.

“It’s really important that all these guys jump on board and hopefully all the young fellas can jump on board as well, and follow us.”
