Much-loved Australian owned dairy brand, Dairy Farmers, welcomed St Kilda Football Club to Malanda ahead of their blockbuster clash at Cazalys’ Stadium tomorrow.
Saints players ran a skills workshop with children from Malanda State School, however their footy skills weren’t the only thing on show, as players met some local personalities including Madge the cow - a descendant of the first cow to arrive in Malanda over a hundred years ago.
The Bega Cheese Limited (Bega) family has been a long-standing supporter of the St Kilda Football Club, sponsoring the club’s AFL and AFLW teams through their principal partnership with Dare Iced Coffee.
Dairy Farmers has been made locally in Malanda for more than 100 years and more recently, Dare Iced Coffee, and they are delighted to welcome the Saints players to far north Queensland this week.
Yesterday Dairy Farmers arranged a VIP Malanda welcome for Saints players Hannah Priest, Nick Coffield and Olivia Vesely, who met local farmer, Greg English and his beloved cow Madge.
Greg and Madge both proudly supply Bega’s Malanda milk factory where much-loved products including Dairy Farmers and Dare Iced Coffee are made. The duo were delighted to teach the players the art of milking, in return for a few footy tips. Saints AFLW player Hannah Priest said:
“We’ve been looking forward to this trip for a long time now and we couldn’t have felt more welcomed by the Dairy Farmers and Malanda community,” Priest said.
“Dairy Farmers has had a long association both with our club and this community, so we’re really glad to be part of bringing the two together.”
Executive General Manager, Bega Dairy and Drinks, Darryn Wallace, is delighted to see the Saint Kilda Football Club travel to such an important dairying community and one that plays a key role for Dare Iced Coffee and Dairy Farmers.
“Dairy Farmers has been an integral part of the community for 120 years and has a long history supporting communities and embracing the spirit of the country," said Darryn.
“We couldn’t be happier to see the Saints try out some new skills, put their hand eye coordination to the test and meet some of our local dairying heroes.”
Dairy Farmers and Dare Iced Coffee are proudly made at the Malanda milk factory, and the site has been turning local farmer’s milk into quality dairy products since 1918.
