Thanks to McDonald's, we're taking you inside some of the Saints' unique habits, superstitions and quirks in the lead-up to game-day.

This week, Jack Sinclair takes us inside his relaxed routine and how his pre-game ritual has changed after relocating to Queensland.

What are your habits the night before a game?

I usually have a similar sort of meal each week. I’m a big fan of my carbs the night before the game. I’m a bit flexible with it, but pretty much any pasta is good. Up here at the moment, I've mainly been eating Bolognese... if I’m at home I’ll sneak in some garlic bread.

I normally relax in front of the TV too. If there’s a good game of footy on I’ll watch that, otherwise I’ll watch some Netflix or play some PlayStation with some of the other boys if they want to chill out.

How about your usual routine on the day?

On game day I like to mix it up a little bit, but I try to have a bigger brekkie – and I like to eat less as the day goes on.

Has a lot changed up in Queensland?

I’ve been going to the beach in the mornings before game-day and have a dip. That’s something I’ve changed since coming up here… I wouldn’t do that in Melbourne.

We all sort of give ourselves some room on the bus to games as well, but I definitely wouldn’t want to sit next to Dan Hannebery. He’d probably chat the whole time, so I’d put the headphones in. That’s what I do normally anyway, listen to some music, maybe watch some Netflix, keep it pretty relaxed.

What music have you been listening to?

I’ve been listening to a lot of Kings of Leon recently. It’s a bit of a throwback, but there's been lots of good songs I’ve never heard from them, so it’s been fun.

What happens next when you get to the ground?

I like getting out on the oval, but always do a little stretching first... don’t want to be kicking footys around having done nothing!

I get the ankles strapped, get changed then do a little bit of mobility. We have a foam roll to get the muscles going a bit, then I'll go out, have a kick and take a few shots at goal and come back in.

I get a rub for about 10 minutes on the legs, and then go out for the first warm-up – the Optional Gresh Warm Up which he runs, which is good fun – and then back in a for a little bit before the official team warm up starts.

The Optional Gresh warm up..?

It’s for a few of the guys who like getting out on the ground and having a run-around before the actually proper team warm-up starts. Gresh has been taking that – it might have to swap this week – but it’s pretty funny.

He’s a very relaxed guy, and probably most guys do it than not these days which is good. We get out there, have some shots at goal, a few kicks and handballs, a bit of a run-around, so it’s a good, relaxed way to spend a bit of time before we get into the serious team warm-up.

Do you have any strict habits before a game?

Not really. I try to do some breathing stuff when I’m getting my rub, but it’s also pretty early before the game so I don’t want to get too worked up.

I like to keep it pretty relaxed, chill out with the guys, enjoy the music that’s played by whoever the DJ is on the day. I don’t listen to my own stuff once I’m there.

I usually warm-up with Jack Lonie. We do our pre-game warm-up and then once we’re out on the ground we’ll do our kicking together.
