St Kilda’s AFLW side will include four co-captains in 2021, with new addition Hannah Priest joining last year’s inaugural leaders Rhi WattKate Shierlaw and Cat Phillips.

The 28-year-old defender will form part of a six-woman leadership group alongside vice-captains Tilly Lucas-Rodd and Kate McCarthy.

Our leadership group in 2021 is a pillar we’re really proud to stand behind,” AFLW Senior Coach Peta Searle told saints.com.au.

“All four players were voted in by their teammates and strongly reflect the values and culture we’re continuing to build at St Kilda.

“With such a young list, having more experienced heads at the helm is something which will be extremely beneficial for the future and something for our emerging leaders to aspire to.”

Searle said the inclusion of Priest was a welcome addition to the fold heading into the Saints’ second year at the elite level.

“We were really pleased at how the shared captaincy model worked in our first season and we’re very confident Hannah will round out that group extremely well this year,” Searle said.

She consistently leads by example and is one of our toughest players, but she also has a kind heart, enormous empathy and understanding with all players on our list.

Rhi, Kate and Cat bring just as much to the table in their own unique ways and all were exceptional leaders not only on game-day, but off the field and all through the COVID shutdown.

“Together, they form a wonderful partnership and we’re very excited to see how it all unfolds.”
