Marvel Stadium will again be turned purple for Maddie’s Match in Round 5, with the prime-time clash marking St Kilda’s first Thursday night blockbuster of year.
The sixth annual celebration of Maddie’s Match will help raise much-needed funds for those suffering from Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes (BMFS) through research, support and prevention in the hopes of one day finding a cure.
Since the first Maddie’s Match in 2015, St Kilda has worked alongside Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision (MRV) to bring BMFS into the spotlight and help children and young adults who are amongst those most likely to be affected.
Pumping up the fundraising tyres this year will be the addition of the first ever Ride for Maddie, a fundraising bicycle ride.
Led by Nick Riewoldt, Ride for Maddie is asking the public to pull on the Lycra in support of this important cause.
The ride will leave RSEA Park on the day of the game, taking in some of the most iconic sites across Melbourne.
Longest-serving St Kilda captain and Maddie’s Vision Chairman Nick Riewoldt said he was looking forward to returning to Marvel Stadium for what’s more than a game.
“It’s great to be launching Ride for Maddie and opening up new involvement to raise funds for an issue close to my heart,” Riewoldt said.
“This year, we’re hoping to once again tip over six figures raised through the community bike ride and the sixth annual Maddie’s Match.
“We’re really encouraging fans to get involved any way they can, whether that’s through the ride, by purchasing Maddie’s Vision merchandise or attending the game to watch the Saints take on the Tigers.”
First to sign up for the trek across the city was St Kilda Chief Executive Officer Matt Finnis.
“I’m really excited to be participating in the first ever Ride Like Maddie, and encourage others from the Saints community to join the ride,” Finnis said.
Maddie’s Match is scheduled for Round 5 when the Saints face Richmond at Marvel Stadium on Thursday 15 April at 7.20pm.
