Round 14 recap

The Saints secured their spot in the top six with an emphatic 38-point win over North Melbourne last Sunday at Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Oval.

After a tight first half saw Dale Robinson’s side go into the main break with a slender one-point lead, the Saints ran away with the game in the second half to keep the Kangaroos’ goalless.

AFLW-listed player Tyanna Smith was outstanding for her side with 23 disposals and six tackles, while Tara Bohanna booted three majors to go with her 25 touches.

St Kilda’s Jess Matin has also contributed well in recent weeks, last week collecting 14 disposals and a goal in the win over the Roos.

The season to date

The Saints enter the 2021 finals series with an even seven wins and seven losses, emerging victorious their last two games to secure sixth spot on the ladder.

Tara Bohanna led her side well in front of the big sticks, slotting 17 majors for the year to finish third on the VFLW goalkickers' list.

Alice Burke, Tahlia Meyer, Molly McDonald and Hannah Priest were incredibly consistent in their multiple outings across the year, while Jess Matin booted six goals for the season.

Southern Saints Gabriella De AngelisDeanna Joliffe and Hannah Stuart also pieced together notable campaigns and were regularly among their side's best each week.

Finishing the season with two wins in a row against Carlton and North Melbourne, the Saints will look to keep that streak going against Port Melbourne.

Last time we met

Despite the fact the Saints are taking on the third-placed Port Melbourne, they will be buoyed by their recent form against the Borough.

Taking on Port Melbourne at ETU Stadium in Round 10, the Southern Saints came out of the blocks firing to secure a strong 27-point win.

Tara Bohanna kicked two majors in the win, and was well supported by Alice Burke (20 disposals, 13 tackles), Tahlia Meyer (18 disposals, one goal) and Hannah Priest (17 disposals, six tackles).

The Borough will be keen to rectify that loss, especially after stumbling to the ninth-placed Hawthorn in the final round of the home-and-away season and forfeiting a top-two finish as a result.
