Another stunning best on ground performance has catapulted Seb Ross onto the podium of the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year award after 16 rounds.

While the outside world catches up with the 24-year-old’s meteoric rise this season, Ross produced another brilliant display against Richmond to move behind only Patrick Dangerfield and Dustin Martin in the prestigious coaches award.

Against a midfield group comprising Brownlow Medal favourite Martin, Tigers skipper Trent Cotchin and marquee recruit Dion Prestia, Ross rose to the occasion and earned 10 votes to strengthen his chances of earning a maiden All-Australian berth.

Ross finished with 33 disposals – his 11th haul of 30 or more in the last 12 games – 10 contested possessions, 12 score involvements, eight tackles and five clearances.

Three-time Trevor Barker Award winner Jack Steven produced one of his strongest efforts of 2017 to earn six votes from Alan Richardson and Damien Hardwick, after he gathered 33 possessions (14 contested), seven clearances, five inside 50s and a goal.

Ruckman Billy Longer was also recognised for his gutsy effort against the Tigers. The 23-year-old injured his hamstring early in the contest before returning to amass 39 hitouts to Toby Nankervis’ 18, as well as finishing with five clearances and five tackles in one his best performances at AFL level.

Mobile forward Tim Membrey, who has been offered a two-game suspension for striking Richmond defender Dylan Grimes, also received six votes after he kicked 5.0 from nine marks – five contested marks and five from inside 50.

Champion forward Nick Riewoldt also earned some recognition for his telling performance against three-time All-Australian key defender Alex Rance, on what was a momentous occasion for the six-time Trevor Barker Award winner.
