Within just five weeks of being signed by St Kilda during the pre-season supplemental selection period, Paul Hunter found himself in the No.1 ruck role ahead of St Kilda’s season opener.

The absences of ruck duo Rowan Marshall and Paddy Ryder opened the door for the 28-year-old journeyman, who was originally lined up to be South Adelaide’s ruckman in the SANFL prior to joining the Saints.

Making his debut against GWS in Round 1, Hunter collected nine disposals and 19 hit-outs as the red, white and black ground its way towards a stirring victory on the road.

Hunter was originally selected by Adelaide at pick No. 13 in the 2016 Rookie Draft, spending four years on the club’s list without playing a senior game.
