In new colours after a quieter two seasons at the Lions, All-Australian Kate McCarthy recaptured her explosive form to add some glittering highlights to her showreel.
While a stellar intercept and goal at breakneck speed against Adelaide in Round 2 was right up there with her best, the following week’s display against Melbourne stands in a league of its own.
With the clock ticking and the Saints down by a point, McCarthy turned on the afterburners to fly past the Demons and hit up Caitlin Greiser, who bagged the magical major from outside 50 to gift St Kilda its maiden victory.
The speed machine also notched up five crucial, rundown tackles and 11 disposals in the landmark win.
Unfortunately, the St Kilda speedster’s dynamic run was cut short after injuring her MCL against Round 4 – a game which also saw Tarni White go down with her second ACL rupture.
'Chatty Kathy' continued to be a major driver on the sidelines, with her consoling of a distraught Molly McDonald immediately following the heartbreaking loss to Fremantle a clear example of her leadership qualities.
