Leo Connolly and Cooper Sharman have each committed to the club for at least the next two seasons, while co-captain Jarryn Geary and Mason Wood have both inked one-year extensions.

Connolly and Sharman have impressed in their limited outings in 2021, with the former lining up in seven of the last eight matches following his surprise debut against Richmond in Round 15.

Sharman, meanwhile, has slotted seamlessly into St Kilda’s forward structure with a six-goal return from his three on-field appearances. The 21-year-old was recruited in this year’s mid-season rookie draft with pick No. 21.

“We’re really pleased to be able to extend Leo and Cooper’s stays at RSEA Park,” Head of List Management James Gallagher said.

“Both players have had completely different and unique football journeys, but they’ve each proven their ability and importance to the club throughout the season.

“Leo’s ability by foot is something we’re all excited to see develop further in the future, and a full pre-season under Cooper’s belt will only build upon what we’ve seen from just a handful of games.

“From a very limited preparation, Cooper has made a great start to his AFL career. He’s a really humble kid who has an excellent football brain, so we’re very happy to extend his contract at St Kilda.”

A fractured leg and subsequent shoulder injury limited Geary to just three matches in 2021, but the co-captain will go around again as he and the Saints aim for strong campaign in 2022.

Wood, who was added to the club’s list as part of the pre-season Supplemental Selection Period, found good form across his nine games before a back issue brought his maiden season as a Saint to a close.

“We’re rapt to have Jarryn go sign on for another year,” Gallagher said.

Gears is such an integral member of our side and his leadership, which often goes unnoticed, is a quality that every player on our list aspires towards.

“Although Jarryn has been hit with several unlucky injuries and setbacks, his influence and on-field output will be crucial as we look to climb the ladder in 2022.

“Mason has also been a really positive influence since joining the club, so we look forward to seeing him back on the park with the younger brigade once he completes his recovery.”

Sharman is set to feature in St Kilda’s final match of 2021 against Fremantle, while Connolly (concussion), Wood (back) and Geary (shoulder) will continue to be assessed.
