Paddy Ryder's two-match suspension has been upheld, with the Tribunal this evening electing to sustain the MRO’s original findings.

Ryder’s bump on Hawthorn’s Will Day during the second quarter of Sunday’s Round 4 match was deemed as Careless Conduct, High Impact, High Contact, with the club unable to reduce the ‘High Impact’ assessment to ‘Medium’.

Day was subbed out of the game during half-time and will enter the AFL’s concussion protocols for at least the next week.

Ryder will now miss Rounds 5 and 6 of the 2022 AFL Season and will be eligible for senior selection against his former side, Port Adelaide in Round 7.

“While we’re disappointed to not have Paddy’s sanction overturned or downgraded, we respect the decision of the Tribunal and accept its findings,” Head of Football David Rath said.

“Paddy is an important and respected member of our side, but we have full confidence that we have the personnel to cover his absence over the next fortnight.

“We look forward to welcoming Paddy back in Round 7.”

Ryder wished Day a speedy recovery and quick return to full health.

“It's disappointing to miss out on the next two weeks, but I understand the importance we as a competition must place on protecting the heads of our players, and I respect the decision of the Tribunal," Ryder said.

"My thoughts are with Will, and I hope he makes a speedy recovery from concussion and returns to the field as soon as he can."
