St Kilda Football Club has launched the first major piece in celebration of next year’s 150th anniversary, unveiling a commemorative Crest which will be used for the entirety of 2023.

The redesigned Crest pays homage to the fabled 1933 match against North Melbourne, which famously saw an undermanned and injury-hit Saints brigade – limited to just 15 men on the field – emerge triumphant against all odds at Junction Oval.

Medals commissioned by then-President Fred Arlington-Burke were handed out to every player from that game, each struck with the St Kilda Crest, which has since become engrained in the Saints’ very character.

From that day on, the Crest has represented the club’s unrivalled resilience and perseverance through challenging circumstances and has remained at the centre of its identity for a century.

“This is a really exciting and significant step, as we move towards our 150th year as a club,” incoming Chief Executive Officer Simon Lethlean said.

The Crest is at the heart of this football club, so having a special addition that gives a nod to our past while preparing us for the future was really important when planning these celebrations.

The Crest has only been used as the Saints’ official logo since 1995, but has featured on every iteration of a St Kilda guernsey – home and away, men’s and women’s – from 1933 onward.

Additionally, St Kilda Football Club has introduced its 150th legacy website saints150.com.au, with more exciting updates to come in preparation for and during the club's milestone year.

“I’d encourage all Saints fans to keep an eye out, as we have plenty of events and initiatives for 2023 set to be announced in the coming months.”
