Geoff Feehan was a local boy from Elwood who had to make his name in a country league to attract the attention of the Saints.

Geoff passed away on October 31 at the age of 87 in an aged care centre in Adelaide. He had spent most of his life in South Australia, but as a youngster he had cut his football teeth playing for CBC St Kilda and Elwood. It was only when he shifted to the country that he started to appeal to the appreciative eye of recruiters.

As a ruckman and defender with a strong and rugged approach, he won the 1955 best and fairest award for Wodonga and was chosen in the Ovens and Murray representative side.

The Saints sat up and took notice and by Round 1 of 1957 he was making his VFL debut in the red, white and black. He was impressive straight away, appearing all 18 games and winning a trophy as best first year player. He collected the award for Serviceable Play in 1958 and for Best Clubman in 1959. He had played 44 games and kicked three goals for the Saints.

By the end of 1959, his former Saints coach Alan Killigrew was in charge at Norwood and was happy to recruit Feehan. In the Norwood side that lost the 1960 SANFL Grand Final, Feehan was best player for the Redlegs. He was also part of the runner-up side the following year and tallied 56 games with Norwood up to the end of 1963.

He later coached at Warracknabeal and also played for Sandy Bay in Tasmania.
