Corey Enright has been bestowed one of the game’s most revered honours, tonight being inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame.

An undisputed Geelong champion and one of the game’s most respected names prior to his arrival at St Kilda in 2022, Enright joins Jimmy Bartel, Tom Leahy, Michael Aish, Sam Mitchel, Mark Williams and Bruce McAvaney in this year’s crop of honourees.

Debuting as a 19-year-old in 2001, the often unsung defender closed out his 332-game career as a three-time Premiership player, two-time Best & Fairest (both in Premiership years) and six-time All-Australian, briefly holding the Cats’ all-time games record before being overtaken by Joel Selwood and later Tom Hawkins.

Alongside Matthew Scarlett and Tom Harley, Enright formed one of the most effective and stringent backlines which proved the envy of the competition for seasons on end.

Enright served as an assistant coach at Geelong for five seasons following his retirement in 2016, joining the Saints as backline coach in his first stint away from the Cattery.

“On behalf of the entire club, we would like to congratulate Corey on tonight’s outstanding achievement,” St Kilda CEO Simon Lethlean said.

Corey’s reputation as a player was universally respected, with his success at Geelong further reinforcing his standing as one of the modern era’s best defenders.

“We’re incredibly fortunate to have Corey imparting his knowledge on our current defenders, who all respect and admire his knowledge and experience he has brought from both an individual and team perspective.

“Tonight’s honour is fitting recognition for a stalwart of our great game and we look forward to seeing what further impact he can bring to the red, white and black.”

Enright joins fellow St Kilda assistant coaches Lenny Hayes and Robert Harvey as members of the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
