The St Kilda family gathered together today at RSEA Park, Moorabbin to bid farewell to favourite son Danny Frawley.

More than 5,000 St Kilda and football fans alike united as one to see off a true legend, the mark of the man not lost on anyone.

The boy from Bungaree wore the Saints jumper with pride, immortalising himself as not only a champion of the club, but a star of the game.

And although Spud won many fans through his heroics on the football field, it was off the field where he made his greatest impact.

His nose for mischief, infectious smile and boundless empathy warmed hearts across the country, whether in person or across the airwaves.

Cloudless blue skies decorated the afternoon, with a sea of red, white and black the perfect tribute to the universally-loved Saint.

Frawley’s private funeral service was held at Moorabbin Town Hall and live-streamed to the thousands gathered at Linton St.

A line-up of football royalty sang his praises, with Wayne Schwass, Michael Roberts and Jason Dunstall among the many to share stories of their mate.

Following the service, Spud’s hearse made its way to the oval where he led the Saints so proudly for his final lap of honour.

The haunting sound of a lone bagpipe echoed around Moorabbin as the St Kilda faithful formed a guard of honour around the oval and applauded as he passed.

Frawley’s wife, Anita, along with daughters Chelsea, Keeley and Danielle – all in blue to commemorate Danny – followed closely behind alongside family and friends.

As he departed his beloved Moorabbin for the final time, the St Kilda faithful let loose three cheers before Danny departed into the sunset – the Saints’ theme song carrying him away.

A true champion, both of the game and of the people.

But an even greater friend, an even greater husband and an even greater father.

His legacy will live on forever in the hearts and minds of St Kilda people, and we thank him for the indelible mark he’s left on our beloved club.

Rest in Peace, Spud.
