Development Coach Lenny Hayes provides an update on the AFL-listed players that represented Sandringham against Essendon on Saturday.

VFL MATCH CENTRE: Round 21 v Essendon

ZEBRAS 1.3 4.4 4.8 7.12 (54)
BOMBERS 6.3 9.5 14.7 17.13 (115)

Isaac Keeler

22 disposals, 12 hitouts, nine marks, six inside 50s

Isaac played a bit of a different role this week as the side’s no.1 ruck on the day. He fought hard and acquitted himself well to the contest and showed his ability to follow up, while taking some strong contested marks down the line.

Liam O'Connell

22 disposals, eight tackles, seven clearances

Had another really good game as an inside midfielder which he’s been able to execute well over the past month. His ability to get contest to contest and win the ball in tight has been a real positive.

Jack Carroll

29 disposals, seven clearances, five marks

Jack worked his way into the game and we saw some of his strengths with his ability to win the ball and use his power to drive the ball. He ended up having a solid game after a slower start.

Liam Henry

16 disposals, seven score involvements, four tackles, two goals

Was really dynamic in that small forward role against the Bombers. He continued to rock up front and square and hit the scoreboard when we needed him too and showcased his damaging traits up forward.

Angus Hastie

18 disposals, eight intercepts, two goals

We saw some of Angus’ strengths off half back with his ability to rebound and intercept as well as go forward and hit the scoreboard. The longer the game went the better his disposal was and we thought he was able to improve his defensive efforts as the game went on.

Arie Schoenmaker

13 disposals, four marks, four inside 50s

Had a quieter day on the wing than he is used to but we’ve really liked what we’ve seen from him in that role. His strengths of his kicking continue to shine through and his ability to mark overhead and compete in the contest has also shown improvement.

Zaine Cordy

14 disposals, five intercepts, four hitouts

Zaine started down back before being thrown into the forward line to try and give us a bit of a contest which he did. He battled really hard on both sides of the ball and was able to work hard for us when asked to be second ruck at times.

Angus McLennan

Seven disposals, six marks

We saw some of Angus’ bravery in the air with his ability to compete and intercept, as well as showing his developing ball use. A tougher day overall for him but he’s built into some consistency this season.

James Barrat

Nine disposals, six marks, six intercepts

Unfortunately James suffered an injury and only played half a game against the Bombers. Before suffering an injury however he showcased his ability to win one-on-one’s and halve contests against bigger key forwards.

Eamonn Armstrong

Seven disposals, three tackles

We gave Eamonn a number of roles on the day as he gets used to playing footy competitively. He started in defence before making his way up to the wing where we really liked what we saw considering his inexperience.
