After 14 years, Jimmy Webster has announced his retirement, telling teammates this morning that 2025 will be his final season at AFL level.

The 32-year-old was joined by wife Richael and sons Flynn and Angus in sharing the news.

“It’s had its ups and downs, but I’ve loved every second of my time at the Saints,” Webster said.

“St Kilda has been such a big part of my life and my family’s life. I’ve made lifelong mates here, and I’ll always be grateful for the opportunity to pull on the jumper.

“I want to thank Richael and the boys for their support, as well as the coaches, staff, teammates and the fans who have backed me over the years. It means the world.”

Webster, who made his debut in 2013 after being drafted from Tasmania with pick No. 42 in the 2011 National Draft, has gone on to become one of St Kilda’s most reliable defenders. Known for his toughness, intercept marking and team-first mentality, he has been a dependable presence across 180 games, embodying the toughness and spirit of the red, white and black.

EGM Football David Misson said Webster’s contribution to the club extended far beyond the field.

“Jimmy has been an outstanding servant of the St Kilda Football Club,” Misson said.

“He embodies everything we want in a Saint: resilience, selflessness and an unwavering commitment to his teammates. He has faced adversity with courage, and he’s always put the team ahead of himself.

“We thank Jimmy, Richael, Flynn and Angus for the sacrifices they’ve made over the years. They will always be part of the Saints family.”

Webster’s career will be further celebrated at next month’s Trevor Barker Award.
