Marcus Windhager joined the Saints Media team to talk about his re-signing with the Saints after a breakout 2025 campaign.
Saints Media: Firstly Windy, how does it feel to finally be able to put pen to paper and re-sign at the Saints?
Marcus Windhager: Yeah it's really exciting.
It's something I'm so happy about and really stoked to be able to stay on for four more years with my best mates and the club I love and where I started four years ago.
SM: You've grown into your career here at the Saints and were drafted alongside Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera and Mitch Owens, how does it feel that you all signed on in the same year and have shown this faith as a unit?
MW: It's obviously such an exciting time for all of us and what we've been able to achieve.
Nas' signing was such an exciting time for the club but also for Mitch and I as his best mates and it really had everyone so excited for what was to come.
To be able to do it for a few more years and know we're all hanging around together is awesome. I love playing with both of them as they both just bring so much to the team and it's my favourite part of the week when we get to run out together.
SM: Speaking of Mitch you obviously grew up together locally in Bayside and have gone through this journey together. How important has this journey been and how exciting is it to be able to remain here?
MW: Growing up with Mitch and being able to come through juniors together has been just really awesome.
Every now and then a photo comes through of us in juniors and I always have a good laugh and even photos of us getting drafted, Mitch has filled out into a bit of a beast now which is great.
It's really special to be able to do this together and something we're both really excited about.
SM: You've had something of a breakout year this year playing a number of different roles. How has it felt to be able to spread your wings a bit and take on these challenges?
MW: It's been a really good year and it's something that I've tried to work on over these four years and just growing my game.
Ross has reiterated to me that I'm going to learn a lot doing these roles on star players and it's been able to help me grow my game.
I was able to do that a lot towards the back end of my year with a few different roles on the wing, across half back and through the middle and it's something I want to keep building on.
SM: How difficult is it to play on those really talented players?
MW: It's definitely tough and there have been a few that are really difficult, especially when the opposition team is getting stuck into me a fair bit.
I'm lucky that I have really good teammates that look after me and help me with the attention I receive.
It's a tough role but it's really enjoyable and there's nothing more satisfying than when you get those jobs done and your teammates get around you.
SM: You're surrounded by a really young and hungry team here, how does it feel to share the field with so many like-minded players and some serious talent coming through alongside you?
MW: Like you said we're all really hungry here and I think that's so important.
It's very exciting to see the talent coming through but we've still got a lot to work on.
We just have to keep building to the future as a group and we'll keep putting our head down and getting to work to get to that exciting future ahead.
SM: What's been your favourite moment as a Saint so far in your young career?
MW: It's really hard to go past that Melbourne game to be honest.
We obviously got to play a final in 2023 which was really special but all the circumstances surrounding that game and what eventuated was just amazing.
SM: And finally, what are your goals heading into 2026 and beyond?
MW: I just want success for the club.
I want to be a part of something special and we as a group are so hungry to give back to this club and these fans.
