St Kilda recruit Sam Flanders has revealed that new Saint Jack Silvagni was involved in the pitch to secure the former Gold Coast midfielder.

Flanders mentioned that he met with the former Blue as well as Ross Lyon, Corey Enright, Graeme Allan, Stephen Silvagni and players Marcus Windhager and Bradley Hill when making his decision on where he would like to continue his career.

"It was a great crew and like I said at the start, from the initial meeting, it was a great connection. So, that was one of the contributing factors to why I chose the Saints," Flanders said on Continental Tyres AFL Trade Radio.

A number of Melbourne teams were trying to lure the 24-year-old to their club, including Melbourne and Essendon, but Flanders found the idea of playing alongside Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera and the club's new recruits too appealing.

"You look at the list and some of the boys brought in, and then also who they're looking to bring in as well," he said.

"It's very exciting. I think they're definitely heading in the right direction. So, it was a big factor in choosing the Saints.

"Nas staying, like, he's a superstar, one of the best in the comp. So for him to stay, he sees something there and yeah, can't wait to work alongside him."

Flanders, who is originally from Fish Creek, two hours south-east of Melbourne, chose to explore his opportunities away from the Suns in the hope of more inside midfield time.

"I see myself as probably more of an inside midfielder. Gold Coast have got arguably one of the best midfields in the comp," said Flanders.

"The biggest thing for me was around opportunity and obviously I'm from Melbourne, so to get back to the friends and family was a big contributing factor as well."
