Dylan Shiel has officially joined St Kilda Football Club as a Development Coach.

Shiel, who retired in 2025 after 14 seasons and 234 AFL games, will join the development program alongside Brendon Goddard, under the leadership of Head of Development and Learning, Damian Carroll.

He will also work closely with midfield coach Robert Harvey in helping to develop the club’s emerging on-ball brigade.

A member of the Giants’ inaugural playing list, Shiel earned All-Australian honours in 2017 before continuing his career at the Bombers, where he added further experience across seven seasons.

General Manager of Football Lenny Hayes said the club was proud to welcome him to RSEA Park.

“We’re really pleased to have a person of Dylan's character and experience joining our program,” Hayes said.

“Dylan's relentless pursuit of excellence - as a player and now a coach - sets a standard we want across our entire club and one which will help our driven group of young midfielders get better every day.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming Dylan, his wife Georgie and daughters Sloane and Blaire to the Saints family.”

Shiel said he was excited by the opportunity to begin his coaching career at St Kilda.

“I couldn’t be more excited to take on this role and work alongside Ross Lyon, Corey Enright and the wider St Kilda coaching group,” Shiel said.

“I’ve been fortunate to learn from some outstanding coaches and teammates throughout my career, and I’m excited to apply those lessons in a new way.”

Having grown up in Saints’ heartland, Shiel joins an experienced coaching group as he transitions into the next phase of his football journey.

“I’m looking forward to playing my part and helping this team continue to move forward.”

Shiel will commence in the role as of 26 January.
