Sandringham senior coach and St Kilda development coach Paul Hudson runs a ruler over the individual performance of the Saints-listed players following Saturday's win.

MATCH REPORT: Zebras too good in Ballarat

VFL STATS: Round 8

Tom Simpkin

Tommy had a reasonable game this week. He didn’t get as much of the ball and I just thought he got caught in between his man and the ball carrier a couple of times. That’s unlike him but he will be fine. He’s an aggressive player for us.

Ahmed Saad

Ahmed had Max Warren follow him closely all day. He took his opportunities and kicked two goals. When he’s at full speed he’s very hard to stop, he just needs to find that space more regularly. He will get some attention and will work through it.

Eli Templeton

Eli had a solid game both offensively and defensively. He hit the scoreboard and contributed in all areas. His outside work was especially good when he played on the ball.

Brenton Payne

Brenton came back into the side after a couple of weeks in the development team and although he didn’t hit the scoreboard, worked exceptionally hard defensively for us. His pressure at ground level was pleasing and he’s continuing to learn the game as a forward.

Tim Membrey

Tim had five shots at goal and could only convert two of these chances. He was unlucky not to kick a few more but he presented well all day. For a full-time target up forward, to notch 14 possessions was a good return and showed his value for us. It was a solid game.

Darren Minchington

I thought Darren was probably our best player with 18 disposals and a goal. He used his body well around the contest, disposed of the ball by foot cleanly and was also defensively extremely good.

Tom Curren

Tom played predominantly forward and a little bit on ball. To rack up 20 disposals was very pleasing. The role that he played wasn’t easy and he did very well to get himself around the ball.

Brodie Murdoch

Brodie is chipping away since returning from injury. He kicked a lovely goal but we need him concentrating for the entire four quarters. I’m confident he will have a break out game at some stage if he continues to work hard.

Tom Lee

Tommy played on Aaron Black and had the better of him. It was another impressive defensive performance and his ability to read that quick kick and get in front was valuable on Saturday.

Josh Saunders

Josh wasn’t as effective as he was last week. In saying this, he still had 18 touches and five tackles and was an important link man for us.

Lewis Pierce

Lewis spent most of the game up forward and kicked a goal for us. He was another player who contributed and after a slow start to the season, he’s had two strong games in a row.

Sam Gilbert

Sammy was solid across half-back. He beat his opponent and racked up 20 touches for himself. He looked very comfortable this week and his leadership was also first class. As a coach at that level, I felt very comfortable every time he went near it that he would do something good with the ball.

Jason Holmes

Jason gave us first use and was good at ground level. The aim for him is to improve his spread around the ground, but he’s improving on a weekly basis and we are happy with his development.

Nathan Wright

Nathan was excellent at half-back. He had 20 touches and three score assists, which shows how valuable he is when he uses his legs to run and kick long. He shut his direct opponent down and won his own footy. Wrighty did the job that was asked of him.
