The St Kilda Football Club has thanked Jack Steven for his contribution to the club over the past 11 seasons.

The Saints and Geelong today reached an agreement after the 29-year-old formally requested a trade to be closer to his hometown of Lorne.

St Kilda received pick No. 58 in exchange for Steven, who missed a significant part of the 2019 season with health and wellbeing issues.

General Manager of Football Simon Lethlean said Steven would be remembered as one of the club’s great champions.

“Our priority with Jack has always been his health and wellbeing,” Lethlean said.

We would obviously love a player of his calibre to finish his career with the Saints, but it is also important to do what is best for Jack at this stage of his life.

“Ultimately, we were comfortable in facilitating a trade that was able to accommodate Jack’s wishes, but also provide the club with a level of compensation that allowed us to move forward in this trade period.

“While it will be difficult for our supporters to see Jack playing for another club, I know they will join with me in thanking him for his contribution over the past 11 years.”

Steven played 183 games for St Kilda after making his debut in 2009. He won his first Trevor Barker Award in 2013 before claiming the honour again in 2015, ‘16 and ‘18 – a feat surpassed only by Nick Riewoldt.
